Letting go...................

So were taking our Daughter to college in two weeks and the emotions are high. The former soul mate is going to be a wreck and here's why.

Well,... its her baby and its understandable that there will be some separation anxiety, But it doesn't help that my kid is downloading songs for her to listen too that make her sad. I mean really Tim McGraw's please remember me? that's torture to a mother who's sending her kid to school!

When Chey was young we were stupid and invested our money in bright start, The good old state of Illinois college program it was a cant miss. Well it went bankrupt and now good old mom and I are footing the bill which is a daunting task to say the least.

So here's what I will be dealing with, a daughter who is clearly unsure of her future, Her and her boyfriend have spent every minute of this summer together, As matter of fact at this point I have come to the conclusion that I'm no more than a guy who pays bills and is here when needed. But that's the way the world rolls, Couple that with her mom who will be a wreck after we drop her off and we have a long few weeks ahead.

At this point in my existence I pretty much have to ask the girls in my life before I can comment on anything, If someone is upset and not talking to me I no longer just say "What the hell" No now I have to beckon my counsel, That is usually Vicki (Former soul mate) Gina (Status clearly unknown) And they help me to deal with my baby.

I guess when you open a new chapter in your life focus become blurred, I'm watching my daughter grow up and she's fighting it, She is an amazing talent and wants to be a performer, She's studying music business at a very well known school. Funny thing is this... to do what she wants to do you don't need school. You need balls. You need to play, You need to bust ass. you don't need to grow up you just need to move on.

Now trust me I have been a bad example, My kids see their dad race, Goof,  and hang with the fun crowd and its all a good time. But dad has been getting up since the age of 12 at ungodly hours to work for his father, or practice sports in High school. They see the result of a lot of hard work and I don't think they fully  understand how I got to this point. I have been working morning radio in this town for the better part of 20 years. That longevity is not by accident, It by work ethic. I at least I hope I have showed them that if you want something you have to go take it.

There are those that listen to the show that recall the day she first got on the school bus, On that day we put her on that yellow bus unsure of how that first day would go, She was scared and so were her Mom her Dad and her Stepmom. That was 19 years ago. After all this time we are still learning as parents. And I think I can speak for all mentioned above  that after all these years its not any easier to let her go off to this next chapter, Its like getting on the bus all over again.

  1. I am sure that she will do wonderful things given her loving & supportive parents, who have served as great examples.
