Big day yesterday, Huge day, Monumental day! the new wheels arrived at the bike shop. This was Cassie's birthday present for the big 10, The "Double Digit" birthday if you will. She was excited! I have one going away to Nashville and one rolling down the Cul de sac.
I love to ride bikes, But I do it to keep from being huge. Kids do it because they are kids. Today I will break out my mountain bike and ride with her, No clip in shoes, no fancy garb today. Today we ride for the freedom that a cool new bike provides.
Don't let this kind of stuff be exclusive to kids. Do something that makes you be a kid again, For me and this is a hard one, I love being out late. Just listening to the night. I also love the early morning. Today I will love the feel of a bike path with a little girl and her new ride!
Man how cool would our lives be if everything we wanted could be as easy as getting a new bike, Its what being a kid was all about, The so called "second" mode of transportation for a kid. Get out and do something that makes you a kid again today.
Its just may put some of those other things you want or need in perspective

Good news there's a baby on the way......
Ok so there's no baby on the way but maybe......did you here this mornings nonsense? Its the Maybe baby name, So here's the deal you meet a perspective dude or chick that could have long term possibility's so you talk about what you would potentially name your hatch, Your off spring, your "maybe babies?
Sound crazy? Yeah I think so too. I mean at one point are you so desperate to close a deal that you would actually engage in this kind of nonsense, Lets face it if you partake in this exercise your probably already planning on who goes to whose house on Christmas eve, and where you go Christmas day.
Ah the relationship and dating fun! On second thought why not goof off and pick fake names, might as well even fake a birth. Have fun because when the real babies come it gets serious. Hell why not even fake a girlfriend that why the drama quotient goes way down.
wonder what Manti Tao's "maybe babies" name was?
Its a crazy world.

Letting go...................
So were taking our Daughter to college in two weeks and the emotions are high. The former soul mate is going to be a wreck and here's why.
Well,... its her baby and its understandable that there will be some separation anxiety, But it doesn't help that my kid is downloading songs for her to listen too that make her sad. I mean really Tim McGraw's please remember me? that's torture to a mother who's sending her kid to school!
When Chey was young we were stupid and invested our money in bright start, The good old state of Illinois college program it was a cant miss. Well it went bankrupt and now good old mom and I are footing the bill which is a daunting task to say the least.
So here's what I will be dealing with, a daughter who is clearly unsure of her future, Her and her boyfriend have spent every minute of this summer together, As matter of fact at this point I have come to the conclusion that I'm no more than a guy who pays bills and is here when needed. But that's the way the world rolls, Couple that with her mom who will be a wreck after we drop her off and we have a long few weeks ahead.
At this point in my existence I pretty much have to ask the girls in my life before I can comment on anything, If someone is upset and not talking to me I no longer just say "What the hell" No now I have to beckon my counsel, That is usually Vicki (Former soul mate) Gina (Status clearly unknown) And they help me to deal with my baby.
I guess when you open a new chapter in your life focus become blurred, I'm watching my daughter grow up and she's fighting it, She is an amazing talent and wants to be a performer, She's studying music business at a very well known school. Funny thing is this... to do what she wants to do you don't need school. You need balls. You need to play, You need to bust ass. you don't need to grow up you just need to move on.
Now trust me I have been a bad example, My kids see their dad race, Goof, and hang with the fun crowd and its all a good time. But dad has been getting up since the age of 12 at ungodly hours to work for his father, or practice sports in High school. They see the result of a lot of hard work and I don't think they fully understand how I got to this point. I have been working morning radio in this town for the better part of 20 years. That longevity is not by accident, It by work ethic. I at least I hope I have showed them that if you want something you have to go take it.
There are those that listen to the show that recall the day she first got on the school bus, On that day we put her on that yellow bus unsure of how that first day would go, She was scared and so were her Mom her Dad and her Stepmom. That was 19 years ago. After all this time we are still learning as parents. And I think I can speak for all mentioned above that after all these years its not any easier to let her go off to this next chapter, Its like getting on the bus all over again.

The "Man Bun"
The story reads "Boys with Buns" now at first glance I'm thinking yeah, I got buns, Nice buns, Buns of steel.....
No that's not what they are talking about they are talking about the Joakim type man mess on his head, You know, Its the way a woman puts her hair up for a walk of shame. But this is for a dude.
I guess this is the new trend for the hip male. Hey! that's me!
I like Joakim, but he's a freaky looking guy who seems a little dirty. I always wonder what kind of things could be crawling under that "Mun" the Mun, you know the basic "Man Bun". Now to know Ray Ray is to know the "RR Fade" I'm always rocking. Well times they are a changin'. Its time to go long.
Currently my hair is as long as its been in years, which isn't very long, I figure it will take me six to seven years before I can rock a Mun. Or I could go to Sally beauty supply and get some extensions and do a weave.
I know this sounds silly but what can it hurt everyone always asks why my hair is always short, Now they can ask why I look like a chick.
The times just like my hair is a changing. How exciting.
RR

Thats America! or as some say Merica
Who can forget back in the day the rags to riches story of Rocky? Jogging through the friendly streets of Philly, Meeting the uber hot Adrienne at the pet shop where he used to buy food for his dog and talk to the turtles!
What were there 27 Rocky's? Didn't Mike Tyson bite Rocks ear off in 23, And didn't the rock also lose at WWE Summer slam xxv at the Allstate Arena?
I don't know what's more unbelievable that there can be a spinoff of Rocky, Or that Philly ever loved anyone. Remember this is the town that booed Santa Claus. I was in Philly for a Hawks Stanly Cup game in 2010. I still cant chew right. Its that rough of a town. It makes Englewood look like Centennial Park in Naperville.
Well the news this lately has been the Creed movie, This is the movie where Sly becomes the trainer for his former nemesis Apollo Creeds son, You remember Apollo he later became the Rocks best buddie! I think they found friendship after Creeds big body Benz broke down after a 42 round fight that ended in a draw.
Don't want no rematch, Don't want no more Rocky movies? too bad!
The Rock will be the trainer for Creeds kid, I guess the kid breaks away from a bad rock band of the same name to bring pride back to the tough streets of the city of Brotherly love. Actually that's not what the movies about at all. To be honest I don't know much about the movie.
What I do know is this, I don't need another Rocky movie, I was cool up to Rocky 12. In all honesty when Rocky thru Rocky III comes on I will watch, After that they lost me.
How about a good Dale Earnhardt movie? I don't think we ever had one of those or a Walter Payton movie? Or a movie on Chris Ledoux.
I know Rocky's as American Chevrolet, and I shouldn't besmirch, Just remember a lot of Chevrolets these days are make in China.
If you disagree, next time we meet you can punch my ribs like a slab of beef in a meet locker!

Free Beer!
Yesterday I posted the story of Bo Bergdahl,(POW)on our Lisa and Ray Facebook page. Two comments. that's it a measly two comments from an audience that touts its self as "Country" and American. Two comments.
Now if it were free concert tickets, Or free beer, You would have hit it one billion times.
Pretty sad.

when I die, please make sure......
When I die, and lets face it, Its later than we all think I need you to do me a favor......
I need my Son to be given my job. Same with Lisa, If something should happen to her Son gets the nod. Its the way this town works, Hell its the way the world works.
Now as far as I know I'm in pretty good health, and I'm not close to retirement But here's the deal, and this is why I need to set this up, plant the seed if you will.
Today in Chicago, Mayor Tiny Dancer Rahm the Bomb will appoint Deb Mell to her fathers Aldermatic seat. This will mark the 31st time in Chicago that family members have been appointed to a job once another family member has kicked it, Or retired.
Stop and think about that for a moment 31 times a wand has been waved and walah! Boom, your controlling a portion of Chicago. That's nuts, no special election, Just blood type. If your DNA matches the person occupying the seat before you your in.
Do the math from the top. Obama blesses Rahm. Rahm becomes Mayor, Billy Daley works for Obama and wants to be Governor, these things will all happen because the administration that said politics as usual would end. Just like 3 dollar gas prices were too high, and we were going to pull our troops out of Afghanistan. But the politics are the same only worse.
So when I no longer want to do this Job, It goes to Conner. At least he's cool, Fun and smart. And he's not a Dancer, Not a Liar, And comes from a good family.
Those this are quality's that usually wont get anyone noticed in this joke of a state.

And this ones kinda crazy, And she'll always be the baby!
Ten years ago today my life was changed for the better. That is when Little Cassidy Anne was born to the lovely Gina and Me. I remember it like it was....ten years ago.
This one is her own sort of unique, We have the Glam Singer, we have the Jock stud, and we have Cassidy. Cassie is cool, she's smarter than the rest were at her age, She has style that's all her own and can make the best duct tape flowers of any little girl anywhere.
Yesterday was a big day, she and her mom went to pedal and spoke and ordered her a new bike. No more boys BMX bike, This is a girl specific ride.
So if your keeping track I have one going to Belmont, One that will be in drivers Ed Soon, and one getting a new bike and heading into the fifth grade. The biggest thing right now is protecting her from the testosterone laden outbursts of her brother, and making sure she doesn't pick up on any of his habits too soon.
Her older sisters more of transportation was supposed to get her to drive to her to her dads house a little more often. Then they discover life, and guys who at this time seem cooler than their father they drive in the wrong direction.
So today I say happy birthday to my baby. Enjoy the bike. But don't drive away too soon, By my estimates we have 8 more summers before your mother and I become inconsequential.
Happy Birthday Baby!

Tough!
Thanks to all that were nice enough to share the ride with us yesterday!
I had a chance to host the "Ride for Kids" (www.rideforkids.org) this picture to the left is Mel, She is tough as nails been through more than any kid should have to endure. She has the bluest eyes you could ever see.
I chose not to go to the Aldeen show due to the fact I had to get up at 430 a.m. to get ready to ride and head up to Lake Villa, it was a good choice.
The kids are overwhelming, There are fighters, survivors, and so are their family's. beautiful baby's and young adults who have made it. The problem with cancer is the drugs are strong, The chemo is tough and you can see that it has its lasting effects, The money raised will help research. Research is where we will find the cure.
Next year I want you to join us. It was a great event!
The reason I rode is due to Ted Nielsen, He owns Nielsen Enterprises in Lake Villa, He asked if I would lend a voice and put me on the Vulcan in the photo below. His heart and soul is in the ride and it shows.
I want to thank the Lake Country police and every town along the route that escorted thousands of bikes.
I'm humbled that I was part of your day.
Thanks to those that help we're kicking cancers ass!

big Johns ex wife, And Im in love with someone named Wally?!
Last Night I was out on the town, I know shocker right? I met up with some old high school buddies on a lakefront cruise, My buddy Ed Kling who I have been in cahoots with since our days at West Chicago High school somehow had a business party and invited half of our graduating class. Not sure why I was there but there was free beer, a band and the Chicago Skyline, Oh and Wally was there!
I have known these guys forever, they know my real last name, They knew who broke my heart, They know where the body's are buried. They know where I got my truck stuck. They know my twin sister. Here I'm known as Ray Ray, "Ramblin " to these guys is nothing more than an Allman brothers band song.
Last night Wally was there, Let me tell you about Wally. Perfection, Class, and one of the sweetest most genuine people I have ever known. My buddies and I would have dated her but we never had a chance. She met Kurt Schmidt who had all the attributes she had! I love it when you see people you genuinely liked back in the day and they are doing well. I thought I would post her picture because she's awesome, She's on the right in this picture. On the left Is Stacy Johnston. The world needs more people like this!
The other woman that caught my eye was the former soul mate of my buddy Big Juan Howl. We just call her CR.
We sent big John the picture of us and he wasn't happy. With her, He said "Don't you hang out with him" And I know why. He loves me and always will. I went through that divorce with him. She's funny and fun and showed me pictures of their son Will who I think looks just like the Big man. John and I have story's that we can never share. We were radio thugs. we should have been arrested.
I guess the point to this blog is in this world of getting kids through school. Trying to keep the house paid for and your kids on the right track its always nice to stop and look back. It may make looking forward more focused.

People are crazy, and Ray Ray just like the "Highway" Don't care.
On our Lisa and Ray face book today First job Chris posted a picture of a bike (motorcycle) I'm riding this summer, It not a Harley!
Full disclosure, I have never owned a bike I have always done a deal with a dealership. Usually it was someone wanting me to ride so I can help a charity. I'm a gearhead, When I was eight I found the governor on my dads lawnmower. I learned that with a flip if the carb linkage I could mow the yard ten minutes faster. I love anything with a motor.
When I was a kid I had the typical dirt bike, from a Honda 50 to a CR 250. After high school I just didn't have the desire to ride. Mostly because I was a huge water skier and I would rather be on the water, And any extra money I had I dumped into my snowmobiles.
The Harleys I have ridden were a Bad Boy springer. Fat Boy, Road King and a Screamin' Eagle street glide. Again they were demos from Harley, I did several rides all for great causes. And I must admit if you want people to open wallets for a good cause no one is more giving than the bikers.
Now with that said here's my rant, Some lady on our FB had to bust on the fact its not a product of Milwaukee, Not a Harley. I don't care, and honestly after riding this thing 2 miles I could tell that it was smoother, better balanced and was more user friendly than what I had ridden prior. I'm not 16 anymore I don't need pipes and beach bars, I'm quite secure with who I am.
I have friend's that are real bikers, Not the ones that put on a pair of chaps toss a leg over their first bike and think they are jonny badass. Some of the guys I roll with have been presidents of the badest bike club in the land, With out naming names this "club" once did security for the Rolling Stones. I ride with these guys and they don't care what I ride.
But Suzie Schaumburg thinks she has the right to bust out the bike I ride, Ray Ray don't care. I'm not a biker, I'm a guy lending a voice to a charity to raise money for kids with brain tumors.
Now don't get me wrong I knew that someone would have something crass to say, Its just the way the world rolls.
Suzie Schaumburg is entitled to her onion, Just remember if you do ride, Ride with someone else don't ride with me.
Thanks to Ted Nielson for including me in this ride we are "Doin' Good In The Hood"

Ditka and my Mom
Ditka, (That's the name I gave the bear that's hanging around my mom and dads house) was back last night. I guess around dusk last night Da Coach came back and was slamming the door on the hot tub house.
I don't know why the bear keeps coming back to Grandmas....... I think its the same reason my kids like to go there endless spoiling, campfires and s'mores made with Almond Joy bars, Oh and the fish cleaning house, and the gut pile from my kids bullfrog hunting.
My mom is like Snow White, She could walk though the woods and have birds land on her hand. Not because she the "Wild Animal Whisperer" but because she feeds the critters. Mistake!
Here's an idea, don't leave left over doughnuts for the deer. Don't feed the chipmunks, But she doesn't care. The kids when they go up want to see the Bear although they wont leave the house at night, Which is kind of cool that way I can hang out on the dock in peace.
Lisa and I are going on vacation next week, Both to the woods. I will try get some pictures of the coach!

Think you had a tough day? Think again.
Last night had a chance to hang with some bad asses. Some young adults and some young kids who have been through hell.
Working with St Jude I know what a kid with cancer goes though, To survive they have to be stronger than one can imagine, Then after treatment they are left with the repercussions of Chemo and procedures that affect many of the body's functions.
Last night I hosted an event for the pediatric brain tumor foundation, The kids were awesome and full of hope. They were also quick to share the storys of what they have been through, and why not? they are soldiers in a fight we have win. And after talking to them there's no doubt we WILL win!.
The parents were thankful that I have agreed to host their motorcycle ride and get US99.5 to back it up on the air, They know that the cure is in the research, and research costs money. So were gonna raise a lot of it for the cause.
I was talking to a mom of a young lady who told me she bought an outfit to bury her daughter in when she was one year old, She told me that she had heard how hard it was to buy an outfit for her little girl in the emotion of her passing. So she bought a beautiful white dress so she could be ready. That was 23 years ago. she never had to use it.
This past week I have been at three fundraisers for this stuff, One day we wont have to do these anymore. We have to have hope for mothers and fathers that are burying their baby's, sisters that are burying their sisters and so on. No one should have to bury a baby.
Sunday July 21st we will ride for a cure, Join me and my lunatic friends as we meet at Nielson Enterprises in Lake Villa at 8 am. we will than ride to the "Ride for a cure" site in Elgin for a day of fun.
Below is the link for info.

Eating Bullfrogs, Doin'good in the hood, A turtle, and the beating I took this weekend.
How was your weekend? mine was busy. I had a fun weekend with my kids and family, My son discovered how to "Gig" Bullfrogs. Yeah this is what happen's when you watch too many episodes of turtle man.
He caught em' Cleaned em' and we cooked em' pretty cool really. And they were really good!
My Daughter was walking near Grandma and Grandpas and found a cool paint turtle, Now I don't know much about turtles but I know that it was a late spring and she was probably going to nest and lay eggs. My Daughter wanted to keep it, No I said, we will get one at Petsmart this one will stay in the wild.
I'm told by a lot of people up north that they have seen an unusual amount of turtles this year. This one was a good distance from the water so we let it be. I'm sure we will see some babies soon!
Yesterday I was part of a big cancer benefit for Don Furland a St Charles fireman. Don is in a fight for his life and insurance is not covering much. It was cool to see all his fire and police brothers come out and support his cause. If you can help in anyway, Contact the St Charles Fire department.
Finally, I did a "Celebrity" Roast of mayor Brad Stephens at Zanies in Rosemont. It was billed as a "playful" Roast. The Emcee was Pat McGann a local comic who had a lot of fun busting on me, Laughed at my hair cut, Made fun of country in Chicago, you know all the stereo typical things that country represents.
I had fun picking on the Mayor, and some of the other roasters but honestly I didn't know who they were. Lets face it if your cutting your weekend short to roast the mayor of Rosemont your basically not headlining in Vegas and time soon......
With one exception, The guy who was last (and for good reason) was Tim Wilkoe. He's a local Chicago comedian who does play Vegas, and every major laugh joint in the country. He was fun, and funny, Clean, and did an awesome job. Its not easy doing any kind of standup.
I took this night serious and wrote 5 minutes of my best stuff, and I'm told I did quite well although for some reason, I did my fair share of using profanity. It wasn't planned, It just happened. I guess I was nervous. But at the end of the night Tim shook my hand and said good job. Your funny. That and the fact that money went to the Bear Necessity's cancer foundation made it worth it!
I'm told dying is easy, comedy is hard. I now know that first hand!

My Cup runneth over!
Yesterday the Cup, The Cup of Lord Stanley made an appearance at the CBS studios.
There was a line of people that stretched out for what seemed like 15 city blocks. At least that's what I was told. I knew it was coming but I opted to go home instead.
I loved the Hawks run this year, But its over, they won, and now half the team has been traded or will be by the end of the week.
By the time this Summers over that cup will have been fondled more than Lindsey Lohan after a 60 day stint in rehab, And if you want your picture with it trust me you will have your chance!

I guess my deal is this, We love the cup for what it represents, Hard work, Grit, and toughness. But we watch from a couch. I take a look around at my friends and co-workers, and I see people that need to get involved. You feel like your involved. But truth is your just sitting on a couch.
Don't get me wrong I love what this team did for the city, Its an escape and I understand we all came together but its over!
The bottom picture is of me after winning the 250 class championship at Eagle River Wisconsin, If your a snowmobile racer this is thee place to win. It pits the best drivers in the world against the toughest track anywhere. Its high banked corners and paperclip shape will make a fool of the most experienced driver. I never thought I would win Eagle River but after a few thousand practice laps, Listening and learning from my friends and working as a team we won it last year.
Now that's a trophy I can hold and say "wow we did that". Same thing goes for any Run, Tri, or bike ride I do.
Lord Stanley's Cup is awesome for what it represents . And what an awesome accomplishment for those that were on the Ice, and all those names will endure the test of time. My names not on it, You see I was on a couch watching. You don't go down in history for sitting on the sidelines.
In this my life my Cup runneth over, and I have the trophy's to prove it. Make sure you participate in life its later than you think!

Ramblin Ray at Zanies one night only!
That's right tip the waiters try the veal. I'm not sure I'm tortured enough to be able to tap into the hurt that most stand up comics seem to endure.
But this Saturday night its the roast of the "Mayor" Bradley Stephens The Mayor of Rosemont I'm not sure how this will go, But here's what I have to work with.
The Mayor looks like the old mean guy from the Despicable me Movie.
His wife is 30 years younger than he is.
He's a friend so I know his history, In other words know where the body's are buried. Perhaps a bad term.
He's like 60 and he has a new born, I feel a diaper joke coming on.
He wants the Cubs to come to his town, But cant even land a casino (That went to Des Planes)
He hangs out at the "Comic Con Convention dressed as Han Solo"
Wears a Robe with black socks
Come out Saturday night I think this will be fun, and Easy.
Zanies is in the Entertainment district in Rosemont .

Things that go BOOM, and why we love Merica!
Ah the fourth of July, Nothing says I love Merica more than a cooler of beer, a backyard fire and fire works.
Now just in case this gets posted to our Official US99.5 website don't do this stuff, Be careful and leave it up to the pro's.
Now with that said, somewhere within the sound of my voice this weekend some one will say the most dangerous works ever muttered, "Dude hold my beer, watch this" There will be an influx of cars that head off to Indiana to get a deal on Cigarettes and Fireworks, Not sure why the Hoosier state has such deals on both, But they do! Oh may as well fill up the car while your there too. In case you didn't know they have cheap gas too.
Same thing for Wisconsin, All of the sudden they have more things that go boom than the kardashain family.
Nothing says America more than a bunch of fireworks that exclaim"made in Taiwan", I remember back in the good ol' days one would have to go as far south as Tennessee before you could get into real fireworks country, There is a whole faction of people that believe that for value of the dollar nothing is better value than fireworks and beer!
We all know someone from our youth that is missing the tip of their finger, for me is was (Dave Shoemaker), Or someone seriously hurt by being caught up in the moment, (Tim Burger) In the end its all good but the scars are permanent.
This is the greatest American Holiday we have, No one can steal it, We can still say happy fourth, No one's going to make our say "happy holiday" This one is ours. Lets not forget to thank those that fought for our independence.
For those that gave so we can have a beer, blow off some things that go boom, and have a few beers I say thank you, I love Merica, I love things that go boom. And I love our soldiers.
And when someone says "Dude hold my beer, watch this" Please be careful!
Happy 4th!

The Big Dog, and the Daddy.
I love this guy, and I don't pretend that many artists love me back, This is a business and after all I'm just a guy at a radio station along the way.
And honestly I don't need pictures with anyone to validate my Facebook, or twitter accounts (although the radio station likes it).
But this guy is different, a few chance meetings with the Big dog years ago and we became friends, Not the "hey how come your station is'nt playing my song yet kind of friends but, Two idiots out at a table full of food and cocktails, perhaps a few too many and there was a bond.
Let me give you some insight to who gets on the bus, The People who can help the artist, The program director, The Music director, You know the guys that can help the songs sell. Now I m not that guy, I just work for the "man" Although I do have some love from artists on my national show.
But on the bus last night was two old friends, You have to know Toby to understand this talented individual, He's fiercely loyal, He's fiercely humble, and he uses those quality's to be successful. He's big, He has passion, and he loves his friends and his family.
Its protocol, that you respect these guys and their time, So last night I say to Toby, Bro my daughter and her boyfriend would like to say hi.....
The response? #@!*&^ Bro get her up here. So a few moments later my daughter and her boyfriend are holding court with the big man. They talk farming and her going to school, and they talk music. And of course he chides me on, how pretty she is and where she got her singing voice. I know he's pressed for time and I say "say hey man you gotta go" We hug it out and head off the bus.
Here's a guy on the cover of Forbes, they talk about his money, his planes his wealth. What they don't see is a guy who lost his dad in a car wreck not long ago, Lost his friend and guitar player just 6 months ago. (another car wreck) This is a guy who quietly is helping his daughter find her way in the music business.
I meet a bunch of guys in this business, But few are real men. This is one of those guys, He loves America, Loves its soldiers, and loves to live large.
The picture on the cover of Forbes should be a better reflection of who this guy really is, Instead of the flash it should be the man who was standing in Norman after the Tornadoes, The guy who had tears in his eyes.
After the lights go down, the crowds go home, and you wake up with a pounding head from a rockin show this guy go's back to being who he is. A Man's Man.
I wish there were more like him.
